Children’s Tylenol (Acetaminophen) Dosage:
Infant concentrated drops (80mg/0.8ml) have been DISCONTINUED. PLEASE DISCARD.
- You may give your child acetaminophen if your child is uncomfortable or has a fever
- Acetaminophen is sold as a generic or under the brand names Tylenol, Tempra, Pediacare, and Feverall (suppository form)
- Use your child’s weight NOT age to select the dose
- Dosages can be repeated every 4-6 hrs. DO NOT give more than 5 doses in 24 hour period
- When giving the infant’s or children’s suspension, shake well before using
- Check the concentration (strength) of the acetaminophen product before each use
NOTE: New Concentration for Infants. In accordance with FDA recommendations, acetaminophen manufacturers have changed the concentration of infant acetaminophen from 80mg/0.8ml to 160mg/5ml. Be aware that there may be both the old and new concentrations of infant’s acetaminophen products available in stores and in medicine cabinets. The pediatric acetaminophen products currently on the market can continue to be used as labeled. Be sure to check the label or contact our office should you have questions.

Children’s Motrin (Ibuprofen) Dosage
You may give your child Ibuprofen if your child is uncomfortable or has a fever Ibuprofen:
- Ibuprofen is sold as a generic or under the brand names Advil or Motrin
- Use your child’s weight NOT age to select the dose
- DO NOT GIVE for infants < 6 months of age or if they have any kidney problems
- Dosages can be repeated every 6-8 hrs. DO NOT give more than 4 doses in 24 hour period
- When giving the infant’s or children’s suspension, shake well before using
- Check the concentration (strength) of the ibuprofen product before each use

Children’s Benadryl Dosage
AGE LIMITS: For allergies, don’t use under 1 year of age. Reason: It’s a sedative for colds, not recommended at any age. Reason: No proven benefits, should be avoided if under 4 years old. Avoid multi-ingredient products in children under 6 years of age. Reason: FDA recommendations 10/2008
DOSAGE: Determine by using child’s weight
FREQUENCY: Repeat every 6 hours as needed. NOT more than 4 doses in a 24 hour period
CHILDREN’S BENADRYL FASTMELTS: Each fastmelt tablet contains the equivalent of 12.5 mg of Diphenhydramine HCL and dosed the same as chewable tablets
RISK OF SIDE EFFECTS: May cause drowsiness and paradoxical excitatory. Use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery after dosing due to potential for sedation and decreased alertness. This is especially relevant for teen drivers
Please Note: Not to be used under 6 months of age. One dose lasts 6-8 hours.
- Milliliter is abbreviated as mL; 5mL equals one teaspoon (tsp).
- Don’t use household teaspoons, which can vary in size.
- Aspirin should not be used in children to treat fever or pain.
